ZFK COLAB 03/2026 – DNA Preservation

This project studies the effects of different reagents and temperature conditions on the preservation of DNA in epithelial samples deposited on various surfaces. Future phases of the project may extend the analysis to blood samples.

The research addresses a key issue in forensic practice: the stability, recoverability and analytical quality of biological traces under different environmental and procedural conditions. Its objective is to generate applied knowledge that may contribute to improving evidence handling, sample conservation and laboratory analysis protocols.

The project also explores complementary approaches to fingerprint-related evidence, including the chemical characterisation of latent fingermarks through MALDI-based analytical techniques.
